Kenny Chesney Takes Oprah Crew Into His World
When Oprah Winfrey knew she was ready to explore country music, she came right for the biggest and brightest names today. With her comprehensive curiosity and will to show her fans and viewers the very best of the best, she reached out to "American Idol"/ACM Entertainer of the Year winner Carrie Underwood, shiny roots'n'pop'country Grammy-winningers Sugarland, rock icon/#1 country hit maker Darius Rucker and the only million-ticket-each-of-the-past-seven-summers in any genre 4-time and current Country Music Association and 4-tie Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney for her comprehensive take on modern country.
"When Oprah calls, you know you gotta kick your game up," Chesney says with a laugh. "You don't want to go on her show and half do it, be kinda good or even just hit your marks. If she's going to give you the time, then you better give her something pretty special - because that lady deserves no less!"
With a crew sent in from Chicago, the man who kicks off his Sun City Carnival Tour April 17-18 in a pair of beyond sold out shows in Uncasville, Connecticut - sponsored by Corona Extra, decided to give them an inside look at what it really takes for the fans to have a little freewheeling, laidback, easy breezy fun. Three rehearsal areas, five computer systems, 85 people and untold tons of cable, speakers, hi-def video screens, staging and a giant fish with his own roadcase named Marley later, they had some sense of what goes into throwing the party of the summer in 42 locations around the nation.
"For anyone who gets to watch 'Oprah' on Tuesday, though, you'll get a sense of what one day - out of the four or five months we spend creating the show they're gone see - is like! And it's just one day of many. It's a whole lotta work, but then it's also a whole lotta fun."
